Nu-Guard® Steel Guardrail System installed in record time in Wellington
The compact nature of Wellington City and its geological location means its two major transport corridors, State Highway 1 to the west and State Highway 2 to the east, are key to keeping the city functioning. With the safety of motorists on these corridors being paramount, SH2 from Silverstream southbound to Fairway Drive has just received one km of new road barrier - installed by contractor Tascon in record time due to their highly skilled crew and the ease of installation of CSP’s Nu-Guard® Steel Guardrail System.
Across New Zealand around $3.2 billion is expected to be invested in the transport network over the next three years to deliver improved safety outcomes. Since 2007 there has been a steady decline in the number of motorists killed or injured in a crash in Wellington. A combination of factors such as targeting high-risk crash areas, infrastructure improvements such as installing central median barriers to prevent head-on crashes in high-speed environments and improved vehicle safety standards have contributed to this trend.
Tenders were requested by NZ Transport Agency in April for the supply and installation of road safety barrier to improve road safety of 2.8kms of State Highway 2 southbound from Silverstream to Fairway Drive.
“We have been supplying Gregor and his team at Tascon with our Nu-Guard® Steel Guardrail System,” says Michael Beattie, CSP’s Area Sales Manager - Central & Lower North Island. “They installed an incredible 1 km of Nu-Guard® in one week with 300m installed in just one day.”
“On an active state highway we have a shift time of only five and a half hours a day after traffic management has been set up,” explains Gregor Lamont, Contracts Manager for Tascon Limited. “So we need to get on with the job. We had a very good run on the Silverstream to Fairway Drive section of the highway. My team did a great job. It helps that Nu-Guard® Steel Guardrail System is a good system and is easy to install. CSP did their bit by ensuring deliveries were on time regardless of being staggered due to the lack of laydown area. It was a very successful installation. It looks really good and we are very happy with the result.” |
