New cycleway gets smart new columns from CSP
As one of five projects currently underway that make up Auckland’s Western Ring Route, the NZ Transport Agency’s Te Atatu Interchange upgrade includes a much improved cycleway which will be well lit for its users with stylish new streetlight columns from CSP.
Work on improvements to the cycleway began in 2014 along with other road improvements as part of the larger Western Ring Route programme. The old cycleway, which originally ran from the city along the western edge of SH 16, is being extended further west beyond its old termination point at McCormick Green in Te Atatu South and has been widened with new underground services, improved drainage and around 80 stylish Oclyte™ Streetlight columns from CSP. The new wider cycle path will eventually run from the city to Lincoln Rd and will be completed later this year.
“The new cycleway is just part of the overall SH 16 Te Atatu interchange upgrade project,” explains Paul Baker, Construction Manager – Major Projects for Futon Hogan the main contractor appointed by the Transport Agency. Northpower, our subcontractor, have installed about 20 of 80 of CSP’s 6m Oclyte™ Streetlight columns on the cycleway at this stage. Northpower have been installing the columns in stages as we complete various stages of the civil works. So far so good. Things are going well. CSP is great to deal with.”
“There is quite a bit going on out on the Northwestern Motorway with several projects overlapping and all at varying stages of completion,” says Bruce Stephens, Sales Engineer Northern Region from CSP. “There is nothing overly special about these columns specification-wise, as they are a 6m Oclyte™ Streetlight column without an outreach. But they look particularly stylish and what will make them even more impressive is that eventually they will be painted black to match all the fencing.”
By the end of 2015 cycling enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the upgraded cycleway, taking in the lovely harbour outlook whilst getting their exercise.
Project features and benefits: The SH 16 Te Atatu project is a Design and Construct project consisting of upgrading the existing three bridges, construction of a new pedestrian bridge, two underpasses and widening over 1.5 km of the existing motorway carriageway. The tender was submitted in July 2013 and the contract was awarded to Fulton Hogan. The project includes widening the Northwestern motorway between the Lincoln Road and Causeway Projects, widening of all five ramps on the interchange, enhancing existing facilities for walkers and cyclists and widening and raising the Te Atatu Road over bridge. |
