CSP’s Oclyte® Floodlight Columns light up new multi-use sports centre

A new multi-use indoor sporting facility opened in 2023 at Halswell in Christchurch at the Ngā Puna Wai* Sports Hub - previously the home of Canterbury athletics, hockey, tennis and rugby league. The new facility brings outdoor netball, previously held at Hagley Park, to the new 10 court indoor facility and will now be the home to both netball and futsal.

A huge number of carparks surround the new facility and with that comes the need to light the extensive grounds to ensure the patrons of Christchurch’s various sporting codes can safely get to their cars when it's dark.

“We put the supply of more than 100 floodlighting columns required for the facility out to tender with CSP being the successful bidder,” says Craig Tozer, USI Contracts Manager for Ideal Electrical. “The overall supply and installation of the columns by CSP went very well. There was a hiccup at one point that Jason Ford, Area Manager (Poles) for CSP sorted very quickly without any delays to the installation at all.”

“We supplied 117 Oclyte Floodlight Columns with a 60mm vertical top spigot to facilitate street luminaires which have now been fitted,” says Jason.

“It’s not always the cheapest price we need, it’s the ability to partner with our suppliers so when things go wrong, which can happen at times, it’s communicated and dealt with quickly and professionally which CSP did and does for us. Partnering with our suppliers is imperative so they can trust us as we trust them.”

*Ngā Puna Wai means ‘many spring waters’ relating to the many springs and tributaries in the area, and is part of the ancestral landscape of Ngāi Tahu. This area was once an important place for local Māori to come together, connect and collaborate.
