Beautiful columns for Marine Parade
For many years the Queenstown Lake District Council (QLDC) were conscious that the presentation of Queenstown’s War Memorial Parade had been neglected. In the 2009/10 annual plan, funds were allocated by the Council for an upgrade of the parade.
The plan included removing clutter and installing new furniture, crushed lime surfaces, and new lighting to suit the picturesque environment.
“When it came to choosing a lighting option for the central pathway for the Marine Parade we contacted CSP as we have installed their timber laminated columns on previous projects and been very happy with the result,” said Paul Wilson, General Manager, Community Services, QLDC.
“When presenting options to QLDC for this project we were able to show them a range of timber laminated columns that we have access to through our association with Valmont Industries Inc,” said Ian Rowland, Area Sales Manager, South Island, CSP. “Valmont has a plant in Finland that is a specialist manufacturer of timber laminated columns and offers a range including: round, square, octagonal tapered columns that come in a variety of colours and with a very high quality external coating.”
“We decided to go with the off-the-shelf range of lighting columns, there was a good range to choose from and the cost comparison was cash neutral,” says Paul. “In total QLDC ordered ten x 5m columns from the INARI Park range in a light Mahanoy timber finish and black for the metal sections,” added Ian. “We did customise the columns slightly to suit QLDC’s requirements. They look great and they suit the location.” “We are really happy with their appearance they look really good,” added Paul. “We are certainly very keen to consider using them again for future projects.” |
Situated on Marine Parade on the edge of Lake Wakatipu the aim of the upgrade was to retain and enhance the integrity of the war memorial as an important component of Queenstown's heritage, as a community asset and as a visitor attraction.
